Why does my child need Occupational Therapy?

Your child may need occupational therapy if he or she is showing signs of the following:
  • Difficulty with handwriting
  • Delay in developmental milestones such as rolling over, sitting upright, or crawling
  • Difficulty with feeding and/or managing utensils
  • Oversensitiviy to touch on his/her face
  • Aversion to getting hands dirty, sticky, or wet
  • Appears "clumsy" - crashing into objects such as furniture or other children
  • Placing inappropriate objects in mouth
  • Avoidance of gross motor activities such as jumping or skipping
  • Difficulty with hand/eye coordination task
  • Difficulty completing age approriate self-care tasks
  • Difficulty establishing hand dominance
  • Low or spastic muscle tone
  • Difficulty with postural control
  • Has an overreaction/fear to movement, especially when his/her feet leave the ground
  • Difficulty with sounds, textures, smells
